The average person needs 2,000 calories a day though factors such as Gender, Age, Weight, Height, Activity Level, and Body fat/composition can all affect your calories need. Some people need more. Always try and hit at least 1,000 calories for lunch. Dinner Little Ceasars large pizza whole or Hamburger helper with rice. 2,200 calories. Before bed and in between meals I eat out of a jar of peanut butter and drink milk. Usually around 1,000-1500 calories more. All together it usually totals around 6,000 calories.
500 kcal is way too much for a surplus. At most, I would do 300. It's way easier. Also, eating that much extra calories, you're still going to put on fat regardless. A bulk will always add fat. The excess kcal consumed is turned into fat. As someone who has done a 500 kcal surplus clean bulk, I wholeheartedly don't recommend.
It all depends on your personal eating disorder background and there is no wrong number of calories you can consume! In time, your eating and episodes of extreme hunger will normalize and you will be eating more close to 2500-3000 calories a day. Some people consume 5000-10,000 calories a day in recovery. For one, you are probably still growing and you need calories for raw material. For two, all those little motions/tics etc add up. For three, start a food journal and take a look at how much you are actually eating. Hard gainers usually THINK they are eating 5000 calories but are actually eating closer to 2000. 16.
